Homeland Craft Beer & Wine
Located in the heart of Batesburg-Leesville is Homeland Craft Beer and Wine which opened their doors in October of 2020! Homeland is a place for the community to gather after a long day with a refreshing glass of beer, wine, or even cocktails.
Homeland is almost like the unofficial town hall of the area where locals can come enjoy different conversations with friends or family while also trying out different beverages. Ever since opening they've seen a steady growth of new customers. They typically attract the happy hour crowd, so it's a great spot to go to after a work day! Homeland is open Tuesday through Thursday from 4PM to 9PM, Friday & Saturday from 2PM to 10PM, and from 2PM to 8PM on Sundays.

Mercer House Winery
Mercer House Winery
Located in Gilbert, SC is the Mercer House Winery which offers a variety of unique and different blends of wine. They have become known for their Southeastern specialty of Muscadines which are native to the area. The winery offers very unique blends of wines and has up to 19 different varieties to try during a tasting.
Mercer House is very different than other wineries because they don't follow the traditional rules of wine making as the owner is very artistic. The veteran owned and operated winery serves as a great local spot within the community that offers a laid back and quaint atmosphere. While many of their customers are locals, they also receive a good amount of visitors coming from out of town. They also offer $20 wine tastings for up to 19 wines.

Boca Grande Burritos
Located in the heart of Forest Acres is Boca Grande Burritos which opened in 2021 and they've been a local favorite ever since! Owner and Executive Chef, Dave Grillo, focuses on providing quality ingredients in a casual environment for a fair price. Seeing a need for this in the community, he decided to start Boca Grande!
The ingredients they use are made fresh daily and they also offer vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options. All of their burritos can be turned into rice bowls or salads and you can even have your burrito steamed or crispy. They've truly brought something unique to Forest Acres and the local community has been so supportive of the business.
Boca Grande is open Monday through Saturday from 11AM to 8PM and closed on Sundays. Next time you're in the Forest Acres area, make sure to check them out for some quality burritos!

Located in the Western Upstate is Anderson, South Carolina which is the county seat for Anderson County. The city originated in 1826 and was named after General Robert Anderson. One reason many people started flocking to the area is because of its location right on I-85 between Atlanta and Charlotte which is a great spot for textiles, industry, and innovation. A fun fact about Anderson is that it was one of the first cities in the state to get electricity in 1895 and home to the first cotton gin that ran off of electricity! Ever since its founding, the area has been booming with popularity for 3 main reasons which are location, price point, and things to do.
Let's talk about the food scene in Anderson! One of our favorites is The Pompous Pig which has some of the best barbecue in the area. Whether you're looking for brisket, pulled pork, or ribs, they're got it all! Next is Palmetto Distillery which is well known for their whiskey and moonshine. They even have a gift shop where you can purchase some to take home with you. Lastly is Figs Farmacy which has ice cream, coffee, and pastries. It's a great place to come hang out, enjoy a sweet treat, and even take some local goods home with you.
For some fun things to do, check out Denver Downs which is a working farm that has been around since 1869, but most people know it from their awesome fall activities such as a corn maze, pumpkin patch, and petting zoo. There is also Carolina Wren Park which is right in the middle of the city and is a great spot to hang out and enjoy different events such as movie nights in the summer and ice skating in the winter.

For this area tour, we're headed west to Clemson, SC! When you think of Clemson, you have to think of Clemson University and actually the history of the school and town go hand in hand.
Originally the town was called Calhoun after Vice President John C. Calhoun. He left his land, Fort Hill, to his daughter and her husband Thomas Green Clemson. Upon their passing, they donated the land to become an agricultural school which eventually became Clemson University in 1889. The City of Calhoun kept its name until 1943 when they rebranded as Clemson and ever since this college town has taken off to be a powerhouse in sports and academics!
When it comes to bites and sites, the area has a couple we can't forget to mention! A staple to the area is The Esso Club which is Clemson's first sports bar and the perfect place to watch the game. For the coffee drinkers, Moe Joe Coffee has a laid back atmosphere perfect for getting some work done while sipping on a nice cup of coffee! If you're looking for a great spot to grab a cold beer, check out Kite Hill Brewing which was actually established by several Clemson Alumni. For sites, the South Carolina Botanical Garden is open year round, free to the public, and you can see some indigenous and rare species of plants! Lastly, if you're into sports, catch a Clemson game and we can guarantee you'll have a great experience!
When it comes to housing, Clemson is pretty much a college town. This means that during the school year the population swells and there's a lot of apartments, college housing, and rentals. Outside of Clemson, you're in the rural hills of South Carolina. If you want space and acreage then you've got it. Also, there's several lakes close by such as Lake Keowee, Hartwell, and Jocassee. You can pretty much find anything from affordable housing in the low $200Ks all the way to lakefront homes.

ABOUT THE AREA
Located in Pickens County is the beautiful mountain town of Pickens, SC which is 20 miles west of Greenville, right at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. There is a lot of rich history dating back to the late 1700s when the area was really first formed after the American Revolution. Following the war, the Upstate was divided into several judicial districts and over time as the population grew they became more divided. Then in the 1860s the city was truly established and was named after General Andrew Pickens from the American Revolution. Fast forward to today, Pickens has transformed from the country town of textiles and farming to great history, a great bedroom community for Greenville, and an awesome place to call home!
Pickens has a really cool food scene. One of our favorites is Coyote Coffee and not just for the coffee! They also have great smoothies, teas, and delicious food options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Burning Brick Tavern is a great option if you're looking for a fun place to hang out, have a burger or some tasty wings, and even enjoy live music or maybe karaoke! Lastly, there's Pumpkintown Mountain Opry. The name can be a little confusing, but it's very similar to a general store where you can pick up some local honey, pastries, and some of the best BBQ in the area.
For things to do in Pickens, you have to check out Table Rock State Park which is the crown jewel of state parks in the Upstate. You can enjoy hiking, kayaking, swimming, and so much more. If you want to hang out closer to town, there's Turtles on the Town which was a local art project that turned into a scavenger hunt! You can pick up the information at the local library and make a day out of finding the little turtles that have been hidden all over town for you to find.
When it comes to housing in Pickens, it's not your normal neighborhood and subdivision type area. The area is more rural and based on space. People that move to Pickens want a little more elbow room and the space for recreation. With all of the growth we've experience in the Upstate, the area is starting to become more populated leading to builders moving towards the area. So whether you're looking for something brand new or something with a lot of acreage, Pickens really does offer it all!

Augusta Road
In the 1830s, Augusta Road got its name because it was the road that took you from Downtown Greenville to Augusta, Georgia.
ABOUT THE AREA
Augusta Road doesn't really need an introduction because it's one of the hottest spots in Downtown Greenville, but for those who don't know much about the area, we're here to give you all the details! One fun fact is it's actually called Augusta Street, but somewhere along the way it became Augusta Road. The area actually started off as a trading trail back when the area was inhabited by the Cherokee Indians. In the 1830s, Augusta Road got its name because it was the road that took you from Downtown Greenville to Augusta, Georgia. Then in 1853 trains started to show up and the area started to grow.
Augusta Road is most known for its shopping, dining, and housing. One thing we love is that the area has a great mixture of franchise restaurants and local eateries. Some of our favorite local spots are Brick Street Cafe, Blockhouse, and Tacozzini. Brick Street Cafe truly welcomes you to the area and they not only have amazing food, but everyday at 12PM they have a cake walk around the restaurant to show off the variety of cakes they have that day! It can be hard to find great seafood when you're not on the coast, but Blockhouse is the place to go if you're looking for some fresh oysters and other selections. Lastly, Tacozzini is for all of the pizza and tacos lovers!
Augusta Road being such a hot spot, it's awesome when it comes to shopping! You'll find everything from local boutiques such as Monkees and Tootsies to more well known stores. If you're looking for something fun to do, check out the historic house tours. One of the most popular ones is the Wilkins House which in 2017 was moved by developers to save it from being demolished.
When it comes to housing, Augusta Road is where everyone wants to be! This isn't your traditional area and there aren't a lot of new construction neighborhoods. This is where you'll find the iconic houses of Greenville, usually all styles and ages, but they tend to be on pricier side starting from the $400s and up.

Fountain Inn, SC makes up part of the Golden Strip which also includes Mauldin and Simpsonville. Originally it served as a stagecoach town as people traveled from Columbia to Greenville. Today, Fountain Inn is one of the top moved to areas in the Upstate.

Looking for different things to do in Fountain Inn? First, they have a splash pad right downtown which is perfect for kids. For evening activities, check out the Younts Center for different Broadway musicals and local plays. You can even start the Swamp Rabbit Trail which will lead you to Travelers Rest!

Many people tend to think Berea and Sans Souci are combined, but they're actually two separate areas that have their own unique touches.
In the late 1800s Berea was incorporated and named after Berea Baptist Church. Unlike other towns in the Upstate, the area had a focus on agriculture because of its fertile soil. Fast forward to the mid 1900s, Berea turned into a bedroom community with many different neighborhoods.
Just east of Berea is where you can find the town of Sans Souci. The area was named after Governor Benjamin Perry's vast estate which was called Sans Souci. In 1905 it was turned into a school for girl's and eventually became the Sans Souci Country Club.
You can find some amazing eateries in the area such as the Big Clock Restaurant of Berea, Capri's Pizzeria, the Swamp Rabbit Cafe and Grocery, and much more! There's also the Hampton Station which is one of the coolest redevelopments in the Upstate. They turned an old mill into a place where people can gather and have a sense of community. For things to do you can check out the Swamp Rabbit Trail and even go to a Greenville Triumph soccer game.
When it comes to housing in the area, prices tend to be more affordable while also being close to Downtown Greenville. Sometimes houses have to be renovated and up-fit to make them more modern, but this also gives you the ability to make the home your own.

Located 12 miles west of Greenville is Easley which has become a very popular and thriving area in the upstate! Part of Pickens County, the city was named after William King Easley who was a General during the Civil War. He helped bring the railways to the town which made it a popular destination for textile mills. In 1873, Easley became an official town and ever since people and industries have moved to the area to take advantage of its awesome neighborhoods and lifestyle.
Easley has several iconic breweries and eateries that we want to share with you. First is The Pint Station located right on Main Street which has 20 rotating local drafts on tap and 7 to 10 varieties of wine, so if you're not a beer connoisseur they still have something for you. Next is The Silos, which is hard to miss as the destination was built from grain silos. Not only does it have a brewery, ice cream shop, sandwich place, and a pizzeria, but it also has an awesome outdoor entertainment area. Lastly is The Smokin' Pig which has some of the best BBQ in all of the southeast.
If you're looking for something fun to do in the area, there's The Doodle Trail which is 7.5 miles from Pickens to Easley and is a great way to explore the outdoors. The Greenville-Pickens Speedway is another spot to check out. It's a half mile track which has some of the coolest local racing you'll ever see and during the holidays they even put on different light shows.
When it comes to housing, Easley has just about everything for everyone whether you're looking for a mill village house to a new construction. Prices range anywhere from $300K to the millions and if you're interested in land, they have that too!

Pelzer was founded in the 1800s as a mill town on the Saluda River around several mill sites being developed by the Pelzer Manufacturing Company.

Pelzer, SC was founded back in the 1800s as a mill town on the Saluda River around several mill sites being developed by the Pelzer Manufacturing Company. The town actually got its name from one of the founders of the company, Francis J. Pelzer. You can find the quaint town on the border of both Anderson and Greenville Counties, but it's officially part of Anderson County.
The mills along the river drew their power from two dams with the help of the first generators ever sold by General Electric, which is still a thriving business today. Another cool fact about the town is that famous baseball player Shoeless Joe Jackson actually grew up in Pelzer.
When it comes to food in the area, there are several places to try! Of course no town in the south is complete without some good BBQ and Southern Smoke has an amazing brisket. There's also City Scape Winery, a family run craft winery and vineyard that has an amazing atmosphere and of course fantastic wine selections. Now if you're more into the craft beer scene, there's Lincoln Taproom which is a quaint brewery where you can enjoy live music and the outdoor biergarten.
The big draw of Pelzer is the Saluda River! Locals enjoy getting out on the water for boating, kayaking, and just enjoying nature. Similar to other areas in the Upstate, the town has many historical mill buildings from the original villages, but there are also plans to develop these in the future. There are several established neighborhoods in the area with several new construction developments in the works.

The town adopted the name "Miracle Springs" up until 1852 when it was changed to Williamston.
ABOUT THE AREA
In 1842 a farmer named West Allen Williams discovered a natural mineral spring on his property and its water was believed to have healing properties. The town adopted the name "Miracle Springs" up until 1852 when it was changed to Williamston. The town is located in Anderson County, but isn't a far drive to Greenville thanks to the I-85 business corridor.
There are several must try eateries in the area! First off, you have to check out the Smokin' Pig BBQ which has delicious pulled pork and you can enjoy playing cornhole on their lawn. There's also Maple Bakery and Coffee House which is the perfect place to swing by for your morning coffee or sit and enjoy one of their muffins, cupcakes, and cookies. Lastly, the Happy Cow Creamery is the last remaining dairy farm in the area and people travel from all over to buy fresh milk, cheese, and other dairy products.
For some things to do in the area, there's the Mineral Springs Park where the mineral spring was actually found. It has some great walking trails along the water and is a great space for families to play. The Welcome Ranch is also a great spot to visit. They offer trail rides, summer camps, pony rides for kids, and you can even host birthday parties there!
Williamston is a great place to live if you want the amenities of the big city with a small town setting. You can truly live, play, and work here!

Travelers Rest

For this area tour we're taking you to Travelers Rest! As you might imagine, the town got its name from being a rest area for travelers who went back and forth across the Blue Ridge Mountains following the wagon trail in the early 1800s. Not only is it a great place to call home, but it's also surrounded by beautiful mountains, lakes, streams, and waterfalls. In 1891 it became an incorporated town and it has blossomed ever since.
Of course we have to talk about the different restaurants in the area! If you're looking for some awesome breakfast to start your morning, then Tandem Creperie and Coffeehouse is a must. They have a variety of crepes, both sweet and savory, and some of the best locally sourced coffee. For breweries, there's Swamp Rabbit Brewery which is family owned and operated. Lastly, is an all- American cafe called Whistle Stop which has so many options on their menu.
For some fun things to do outside, make sure to check out the Swamp Rabbit Trail because the trail actually starts in Travelers Rest and takes you to Downtown Greenville! There's also Trailblazer Park which has walking and biking trails, outdoor gazebos, and an amphitheater where they host different local events, concerts, and movie nights! When it comes to housing in Travelers Rest, they have an eclectic mix of just about everything.
You can find houses with historic charm all the way to beautiful new construction homes. The area continues to get bigger as builders have been expanding into new neighborhoods. Travelers Rest has anything and everything available for what you're looking for.

Lastly, if you're looking for a great local brewery then you have to check out Five Forks Brewing for great seasonal beers and IPAs. Also located within the area is Woodruff Road which is where you'll find some of the best commercial shopping in all of the Upstate.
Five Forks has become a popular move-to spot in the Upstate. One reason the area is so desirable is because of its close proximity to both Simpsonville and Downtown Greenville. Established in 1859, Powdersville dates all the way back to the Civil War. The area actually got its name from being the location where gunpowder was made and ammunition was stored. Powdersville has a small hometown feel that is split between two counties and it continues to expand.
One place in the area that has become quite well known is their YMCA. The Powdersville YMCA was established in 2016 and it offers a little something for the entire family. You'll find a waterpark, state of the art workout facilities, basketball courts, and more.

The third part of the Golden Strip is Mauldin, SC which also includes Fountain Inn and Simpsonville. The one main difference in Mauldin and the rest of the Golden Strip is that it doesn't have a true downtown, but it still has so much to offer. The city was founded in 1784 with only 100 acres of land and it really became the farm area that serviced downtown Greenville. Today, Mauldin is a thriving suburb of downtown Greenville that has its own DNA rich in history, activities, and great restaurants!
When it comes to eateries in the area, Tato's Pizzeria is a fantastic choice. They are known for their hand-tossed pizza while also having a Colombian vibe. If you're looking for a great place to grab a burger, then you definitely need to check out HipBurger. They opened their doors in 2020 and they believe that food truly brings people together. Our last recommendation is Wholy Smoke because who doesn't love barbecue? They are a Texas style BBQ joint that has phenomenal pulled pork and ribs. No matter which restaurant you choose in Mauldin, we promise you won't be disappointed.
In terms of activities in the area, Mauldin has done a great job of giving people places to build community. The Mauldin Sports Center has both youth and adult leagues for basketball, baseball, and more. There is also the Mauldin Cultural Center which hosts plays, musicals, and youth events. Lastly, there is the Conestee Nature Preserve which is 145 acres surrounded by walking trails, a dog park, and lake. It is the perfect spot for having a picnic or just to relax in the beautiful South Carolina weather.
Many people move to Mauldin not only for the types of homes they can choose from, but also because of its close proximity to downtown Greenville, the Western Upstate, and Simpsonville. Most importantly, people choose to move here because of the small town southern charm, eateries, and activities.

In 2019, Hendrix opened its doors in the heart of Downtown Columbia. Located on Main Street, the restaurant and bar brings people the best of both worlds by having a farm to table fine dining restaurant downstairs with a lounge and rooftop bar upstairs. Their goal upon opening was to ensure they checked the boxes of a lot of people and to provide a unique experience.
