Tucked away in a charming brick building just off of Gervais Street is a delightful restaurant that is becoming a well known hotspot in Columbia. Away from the hustle and bustle of The Vista, Motor Supply Co. Bistro is an relaxing hidden gem in the middle of Downtown Columbia. They have made a name for themselves by providing superior service with incredible locally sourced dishes, and a menu that changes on a weekly basis.

The restaurant itself was opened in 1989 by Eddie Wales, and has been going strong ever since. Located inside an old engine supply building, the atmosphere reflects a cozy French bistro with modern touches, such as gleaming hardwood floors, beautiful brick and glass, throughout. The food is a self-proclaimed “eclectic blend of contemporary American, French, Italian and Asian cuisine”. And it is DELICIOUS.

Our team stopped by last week for lunch, and we were highly impressed with their lunch menu. A few of our team members have been to enjoy the dinner menu, but many of us had not taken the opportunity to try the lunch menu. Our meal began with a charcuterie plate and a cheese plate, both served with slices of a toasted baguette. Perhaps the best part of the plate was the tomato jam that came alongside both plates, which made for an great pairing between the meat and cheese.

We each tried some of the different dishes, including an oven roasted turkey sandwich on an everything bagel, a grilled salmon salad, SC caught shrimp over creamy jasmine rice, and the pork chop with garlic mashed potatoes. Each dish had a unique flair that Chef Wes Fulmer is known for adding to his food. We finished with the desert of the week, a peanut butter and chocolate bar, and a creme brûlée.

We highly recommend that you try out Motor Supply Co. the next time that you go to The Vista. The food is absolutely wonderful, and the atmosphere and service make for an unparalleled dining experience. In addition, Motor Supply Co. provides valet parking by Southern Valet to its customers, taking the concern of parking out of the equation and leaving more time to enjoy the wonderful cuisine. We hope that you get out and check out this great local business.
